Visual Argument Discussion

I found the discussion last Tuesday in class about visual arguments very interesting.  I was mostly shocked with the approach that the Bennetton clothing company takes towards its advertising.  The point of advertising is to grab and keep your audiences attention, which they certainly do.  However, I think they are drawing negative attention that, in most cases, will produce the opposite effect than what they are hoping for.  Overall, though, I got a good idea of visual arguments, how they work, and why they are influential.

Chapter 6

I found chapter 6 very interesting.  I had never thought of using images or pictures to argue a topic until I read this chapter.  I also found it interesting how often times pictures can be even more powerful than written arguments.  We have to be careful, however.  Not all pictures may be accurate, especially these days when digital technology is commonly used.  Pictures can be altered to meet the photographers needs, so it is important to be sure the images used in an argument are original, unaltered images.
